Environmental Commitments

Marine Conservation Partnerships: A portion of the revenue from every phinisi cruise charter is donated to our official conservation partners, including WWF Indonesia and the Komodo Survival Program. Elimination of Single-Use Plastics: We have a zero-tolerance policy for single-use plastics across our entire curated fleet. All vessels are equipped with water purification systems, and guests are provided with reusable bottles. All provisions are stored in non-plastic, reusable containers.
Comprehensive Waste Management: We enforce a strict ‘zero-discharge’ policy. All waste is sorted on board, compacted, and brought back to port for responsible disposal in designated facilities. We never dispose of anything in the sea.
Reef-Safe Practices: We provide all guests with complimentary, high-quality, reef-safe sunscreen. Our dive masters and guides are trained to enforce strict no-touch policies on all snorkeling and diving excursions to protect fragile coral ecosystems.
Carbon Offsetting: We are actively developing a partnership with a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified project, such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve, to offer our clients the ability to offset 100% of the carbon emissions from their charter’s fuel consumption.

Local Employment & Fair Wages: We contractually require our partner vessels to maintain a crew of at least 80% Indonesian nationals. We champion fair wages and ensure all crew are covered by BPJS, Indonesia’s national health and social security system.
Sourcing from Local Economies: Wherever possible, we source fresh produce, fish, and supplies from local markets and farmers in ports like Labuan Bajo and Sorong. This injects revenue directly into the local economy.
Authentic & Respectful Cultural Exchange: Our itineraries include opportunities for guests to visit local communities, such as the sea gypsy villages of Wakatobi or the ikat weavers of Flores. These visits are designed in collaboration with village elders to be respectful, non-intrusive, and economically beneficial, with guests encouraged to purchase crafts directly from the artisans.
Supporting Traditional Craftsmanship: The Phinisi itself is a product of incredible local craftsmanship. We honor this by working exclusively with vessels built by traditional Konjo boat builders in South Sulawesi and supporting initiatives that preserve these vital skills.
